The Flight
Windship Aviation offers flights over the City of Edmonton and surrounding area from March to December twice a day, seven days a week, weather permitting. The times vary according to the season, but we generally offer an early morning flight and an evening flight. The total experience takes approximately 3 hours, including a one hour flight.
|
In addition to this each passenger receives the following:
- A personalized flight completion certificate in an attractive folder recognizing each passenger as an official aeronaut.
- Traditional imported champagne toast served in silver goblets by the Pilot and Crew upon landing.
- A colour photograph of the balloon that the passengers have flown in.
- A Hot Air Balloon lapel pin to wear on your favorite jacket or hat.
- Return transportation from the landing area to the launch site.

Balloon passenger capacity ranges from 4 to 8 passengers per balloon plus the pilot. We maintain a high standard of quality and employ some of the most experienced pilots and crew available. We have always maintained that safety is our highest priority.
Your Adventure...
Your adventure begins with a phone call from your flight crew approximately one hour prior to planned meeting time to verify the flight status, meeting site location, and rendezvous time. After meeting the flight crew and being taken in to the launch field, you watch as the basket is attached to the seemingly small, colorful balloon envelope. You hear the inflator fan as it begins to blow cold air into the now billowing and lively fabric. Minutes later, the balloon slowly begins growing into tremendous proportions. Then the fan stops and peaceful silence is momentarily broken by the sound of the burner. The colorful giant quickly rises to its full height. Quite an overwhelming sight!
The burner goes silent and you hear only the faint creaking of the rigging and the basket as the balloon appears to strain for the open sky. The pilot invites you to join him/her in the finely crafted basket and your magical flight begins!
Once more, the sound of the burner cuts through the silence and you notice a strange, buoyant sensation. Slowly and quietly the ground slips away. You watch the treetops drifting by a short distance below. You feel for the first time you can see forever and the whole world can see you. People on the ground exchange greetings with you and wave with delight as you quietly drift through the air.
The winds begin to ebb away and you contemplate return to Mother Earth. The earth passes beneath you more slowly now and the treetops reach up gently to touch the bottom of the basket. You drift slowly into an open field and the basket gently settles into the grass. The time has flown by so quickly! The chase vehicle carrying the crew arrives and the jovial atmosphere surrounds the basket again. After deflation, the limp fabric lies prone as before. The yards of colorful fabric are gathered and laid back gently into its storage bag until it's time to fly again. The bottle of imported champagne appears and the tradition dating back to the Montgolfier's first flight is celebrated.
In a short while you are on your way back to the launchsite and into the same earthbound world you've always known but... somehow now it's not the same!
